FRAME Northern France, 16th century, dated 1532 (39.5 x 32.5 x 9.5 cm) Carved and gilded molded oak tabernacle frame. The pediment is crowned with a plume and brackets in the form of opposed, drooping brackets, framing an overhanging bust of Christ, his face turned slightly to the right. The uprights simulate pilasters adorned with trophies, one of them dated 1532, the connecting dice with flowery rosettes. 39.5 x 32.5 x 9.5 cm (visible wear) Some tabernacle frames reproduced in reference works are often dated mid-16th century, while the frame presented in our sale, although quite Renaissance in architectural conception, maintains a still Gothic spirit through the shape of its ogival pediment with a bust marked by the timelessness of Christ.
