PECTORAL representing a HARP EAGLE - Lot 7
PECTORAL representing a HARP EAGLE The bird in relief is treated with naturalism. Its wings are spread out in a crescent shape and two birds seen in profile surmount them. Its tail, disproportionate to the body, opens in a fan shape. The gold leaf was hammered and then opened at the level of the wings and the two birds animate the surface of the jewel. Worn by shamans or dignitaries, these pectorals were part of the insignia of power and had a strong ceremonial connotation. A suspension ring on the back. Molten gold with lost wax. Weight: 33.9 g. Muisca Culture, Colombia, 900 - 1500 AD H. 11 - L. 14 - Ep. 1.5 cm Condition: A few small holes and accident.
