The auctioneer is in charge of realizing an estimate of the objects that are presented to him, to fix a prize.

The prerequisite for estimation consists in appraising, or assessing, the essential qualities of the object analysed: authenticity, antiquity, rarity and state.

It is only regarding the market demand, or according to taste or fashion, that the auctioneer can determine its value.
