TRIGONOLITH - Lot 24
TRIGONOLITH It is sculpted with the head of the deity Zemi, identifiable by his wide mouth, hollowed out orbits and gaunt nose. The headdress, decorated with concentric or triangular symbolic motifs, occupies the entire second part. On the back, the large circle symbolizes the woman's belly and the triangles on the sides symbolize her sex. The theme is related to the idea of fertility. A point, which has remained smooth, emerges from the headdress. The convex base is left rough. Black stone. Taino culture, Greater and Lesser Antilles, 800 - 1550 AD H. 15,5 - l. 19 - Ep. 9 cm Provenance: Former private collection, France.
