"Earlier variant or special realization or variant of the GB 11 model designed around [1944] then taken over as N. 402, designed and improved between [1949] and [1954]".
Round coffee table commonly known as Guéridon bas.
The three legs are cut out and made of oak.
The spacer, triangular and forming a Y at each end, is made of bent metal and initially lacquered ivory (type 1702 PR), later re-lacquered black; this metal spacer angle is (unusually) 6.8 cm wide and attached to the base (in an atypical but original manner) by two bolts and two nuts at the joints at each end.
Original rubber glides (later re-lacquered black) to support the top.
Circular glass slab top (30 mm thick).
H. of each leg: 35 cm - D. of top: 90.5 cm
Used condition, metal parts pickled black (original color accessible), small chips around glass top.
Provenance :
- Mr. Albert Lott (1910-1991) - Photographer based (professionally) at 9 rue Stanislas, Nancy; close associate of Jean and Henri Prouvé. Sponsor, for his private use, of a house built by Henri Prouvée and located at 141 avenue de Boufflers in Nancy.
- Madame X., granddaughter of the above.
Important archive :
Copies of photographs of our pedestal table taken in situ in the 1960s at 141 avenue de Boufflers in Nancy (house designed by Henri Prouvé for Albert Lott) will be given to the purchaser. The Archives de Meurthe-et-Moselle hold all the documents (over 200) relating to Albert Lott's house at 141 avenue de Boufflers in Nancy, in the Fonds Henri Prouvé.
Related work :
A low pedestal table, a variant of models GB 11 and N 402, from the Dollander Collection in Nancy, bears many similarities to our coffee table with a larger diameter.
