The Lobmeyr crystal factory was founded in Vienna in 1823 by Josef Lobmeyr (1792-1855), and quickly became a supplier to the imperial court. A pioneer in the production of Austrian and Bohemian crystal, the Lobmeyr manufactory soon turned its attention to international markets, exhibiting pieces at the London World's Fair in 1851.
J. & L. Lobmeyr supplied crystal chandeliers for the Linderhof and Herrenchiemsee castles, as well as a crystal chandelier for Schönbrunn Palace. An enduring company, Lobmeyr became a supplier to the King of the Belgians, the Duke of Brabant and the Court of Flanders at the beginning of the 20th century.
