ARTHUR GUILLOT (1798-1870, Lyon sculptor, pupil of Chinard) Portrait of Friedrich von Schiller (1759-1805) holding a parchment "Thirty Years' War". Terracotta, inscribed on the terrace "Schiller à madame La Baronne de Carlowitz", signed "Guillot" and dated 1841 Height: 39.5 cm Arthur Guillot must have frequented a Parisian salon where he met the Baroness de Carlowitz, translator of Schiller's works in France. The German philosopher spearheaded the Romantic movement in Europe.
