Second edition of Perrault's main work, a remarkable architectural treatise written by Colbert's superintendent of buildings and brother of the writer Charles Perrault. Among other projects, he participated in the construction of the East Wing of the Louvre and the Paris Observatory. He also built the Arc de Triomphe du Trône in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine in 1670 and the Pavillon de l'Aurore in Sceaux. He also worked at Versailles, where he designed interiors and supplied plans for the Grotte de Thétis, the bain de Diane and the Grand Canal. Perrault's treatise goes beyond Vitruvius' work. Numerous technical articles deal with the preparation of plaster, color and stucco, hydraulics and the use of water in construction, and gnomonics, all techniques used in the construction of the Château de Versailles.
