ICON of the Crucifixion A cavity for the bronze cross has be - Lot 470
ICON of the Crucifixion A cavity for the bronze cross has been cut in the center of the wood. The iconographer completed the scene with the three Marys on the left, St. John and the soldier Longin on the right. Two smaller scenes were also added. This icon, commissioned by a family, has four saints on the borders, including Mary the Egyptian, the saints Anne and Parascève and Saint Sergius (?). The enameled cross is composed of three crosspieces and numerous symbols. Above Christ are God the Father, the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove and the angels of the Lord. Then it reads: "King of Glory", and under the Crucified One's arms the song of the exaltation of the cross. Along his body are the spear and the sponge. On the lower branch is a sketch of the city of Jerusalem, further down is Adam's skull, and in a grotto is the tree of Paradise. 19th-century Russia, Tempera on wood, restorations, wear and accidents 34.5 x 29 cm. Appraised by Madame Ariane de Saint Marcq.
