ZOOMORPHIC FETISH - Lot 22
ZOOMORPHIC FETISH Stone and mother-of-pearl Pre-Hispanic civilization of southwestern USA, probably Anasazi Proposed dating 1,200 - 1,300 A.D. 10 x 22 x 12 cm This volcanic stone sculpture, whose sculptor has exploited its natural form to express the animal's body, appears to represent a bear or mountain lion. The neck is emphasized by a deep cut from which the animal's head emerges. The head is reduced to its simplest expression - two inlaid mother-of-pearl eyes and a sketched mouth.
