Zemi-shaped PILON in dark gray stone. The rounded base is us - Lot 187
Zemi-shaped PILON in dark gray stone. The rounded base is used to grind hallucinogenic plants for the Cohoba ritual. This utilitarian object takes on a sacred dimension through the presence of a sculpture representing a Zemi. This half-skeletal, half-human crouching divinity is closely linked to the notion of fertility. Dominican Republic 800 - 1500 A.D.
